Learning Objectives

  1. Identify common obstacles to exercise which many with autism experience and methods of overcoming them.

  2. Develop programming that is fun and engaging for this population, significantly increasing the likelihood of program adoption by the client.

  3. Learn about the challenges unique to those living with autism so that programming can accommodate individual needs.

  4. Draft a wellness plan to ensure successful outcomes and meeting goals for those living with autism.

Those living with autism collectively have a rate of obesity higher than that of the normal population. It can be very difficult to successfully engage individuals on the spectrum with conventional tactics. As such, you need a special way to target these people with programming that is fun and interactive.

Eric Chessen of Autism Fitness discusses the importance of assessment, the PAC profile and appropriate exercise as well as strategies that will help any fitness professional better serve this population. It is a great way for fitness professionals to help individuals live longer and better lives.
